I recently wrote about the incredible output of amazing new music that Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre has putout this year during the pandemic. It's such a joy for me to see his Tweets about going to the studio every day to work on another song. He's bringing music to the people for all of us to enjoy during this dark period.
But as great as Anton's studio wizardry is, BJM are a must see live act. It's always an adventure seeing them, and nothing less than compelling. You never know what the evening is going to bring, but that's part of the charm. It's never forced, you can expect the unexpected.
I was lucky enough to film them a couple of years ago at the world famous First Avenue in Minneapolis. My good friends, the mighty Chatham Rise opened the show, so it was a really special night(Video clip from CH at 1st Ave coming soon) First Ave is such a great, iconic venue. You can feel the energy all around you. Prince and the Revolution, among other greats will always be in the room with you, no matter who's playing.
On this night is was BJM and they were in fantastic form. This clip is for Vad Hände Med Dem? which was the opening track for their fantastic 2014 LP, Revelation. I was in the pit kind of looking up at Anton, it was a bit of a strange angle, but it was definitely a birds eye view of the action! Light show was really on point, and I was able to capture great sound, so all in all this a fun one for your viewing pleasure <3
